I think a lot of people are gonna

try to be funny and say Cole Sprouse?

Called it, again.

[interviewer laughs]

[Interviewer] Do you mind reading

how many people said Cole?

Who cares.

[Bouncy music]

What's up, guys? I'm KJ Apa,

1,509 of you guys took a survey about me.

This is the official KJ Apa Fan Survey.

[box thuds on floor]

I hope they're saying good things about me. [Laughs]

I think they think they know me, pretty well.

Inside KJ's Mind.

My first job was

actually washing cars, for my friend.

He was working for his old man who owned the business,

and I was just washing wheels for him.

And I lasted about three days.

[Interviewer] Is that something your fans

would know about you?

I think so, maybe,

at least if I've said it, somewhere, yeah maybe.

[Interviewer] What's something you think they'll say?

Acting, probably.

Alright, let's see.

Okay, first job, we have coffee...

barista.

36 people thought I was a barista.

That would be pretty cool.

I was not a barista before I started acting, no.

Dog walking.

51 people thought I was a dog walker.

I was not a dog walker, but Charles Melton

was a dog walker before he started acting.

And he was actually the best dog walker in Los Angeles.

Fun fact.

Musician, 76.

I wasn't a professional musician, no.

Ice cream scooper.

18 people thought I was an ice cream scooper.

Nope.

Pretty random, pretty interesting.

All pretty valid ones, too though, you know,

Because I was a young guy, I could've definitely been

making some change off of walking some dogs.

I love dogs.

I love coffee.

Don't really know how to make a coffee

with a machine though, so.

[Bouncy music]

What would KJ say is the perfect age?

I think the perfect age to be is 40.

Seems wise, seems like a wise age.

I feel like the older you are, the wiser you are.

But I feel like for me, 40 is a solid age, you know?

[Interviewer] What do you think the fans are gonna say?

Something younger, I think.

Maybe like, between 20 to 25, I think.

Sure enough, 21, 321 people thought 21.

25...

195.

I said 20 to 25, didn't I?

22...

148.

23, 102.

18, 78.

30, 98.

[exhales deeply]

You're all wrong.

[paper crumpling]

Transmutations.

Whose career does KJ admire most?

Yeah, I admire, so many people.

I have a lot of people that I look up to,

I think, John Mayer is someone

I think whose career is pretty cool.

He's a great musician.

Eddie Van Halen's another one, so,

I think a lot of people are gonna say Eddie Van Halen.

I think a lot of people are gonna

try and be funny and say Cole Sprouse,

which I do admire, I admire his career,

I think he's worked very hard,

I think he's good at what he does.

Too bad he's, no, he's good.

[Bouncy music]

Cole Sprouse...

204.

Luke Perry, 177.

Eddie Van Halen, 96, I told you.

Leonardo DiCaprio, 27.

The Rock, 58.

John Cena, one.

One person thought John Cena.

That's funny.

I think it's pretty good, actually,

I admire all these peoples' careers.

Truly, I do, truly.

[Paper crumpling]

If KJ were any plant, animal or food, what would he be?

If I was an animal, I think I'd be, like a dog.

I just think I'm a dog, a little bit, you know what I mean?

I think I'm a dog.

[Interviewer] What do you think the fans are gonna say?

I don't know, I've got no idea.

I'm a dog, I guess, right?

I was talking about this with my friend the other day,

what animal I would be, I guess I'm a dog.

Everyone thinks I'm a dog.

That's a good thing though, right?

133 people thought I was a dog.

Watermelon, I love watermelon.

Just 'cause it's my favorite,

doesn't mean that's what I'd be, though.

You know what I mean?

I don't think I look like a watermelon.

A carrot, I knew that was gonna,

I knew people were gonna say carrot.

So funny.

16 people thought carrot.

Bear, 14 people thought bear.

I guess I'm kind of like a bear.

I'm kind of big, you know.

Defo a whale cause they're hella cute,

but they randomly make proper weird noises.

[Laughs lightly]

That's a good one.

That's pretty good.

In the clouds.

In one word, what do you think is KJ's favorite sound?

I love the sound of a car engine.

Like an old car engine, you know?

I love sound, I love sound in general, I think, you know?

I think some people will say car, for sure.

Some people will say guitar, maybe, too.

Let's see.

Well, I'm glad to see that fart is the

second to top on the thing.

Can't say that I enjoy listening to farts.

[Laughs lightly]

Guitar, saw that one coming.

Rain, I like listening to rain,

but I'm stuck in Vancouver for the last four years,

so I've heard enough rain.

Bang, Cole,

waves, laughter,

I like listening to laughter,

I like listening to waves.

Bark, comes back to the dog.

Hey, look, we've got fart again over here.

I mean, I like listening to

all these things, except for farts.

Good job, everyone.

[Bouncy music]

Hopes, dreams, and fears.

What global movement is important to KJ right now?

I worked a lot with SPCA, for the animals.

Dogs, coming back to dogs, I love supporting our animals,

I think they need more support.

Especially our dogs, I think we can learn a lot from dogs.

Yeah, I think a lot of people will say that, too.

Okay...

46, climate change.

Can't say that's on the top.

Inequality, yep, that's up there.

LGBTQ+ rights, yes, that's up there.

Immigration reform, other.

46.7% climate change, it's important.

That's important, I need to put more effort

into that, I think.

I don't put enough effort into that.

What is KJ's irrational fear?

I think spiders.

I would never back down to a spider.

I think they're gonna say spider,

and I think they're gonna also say Cole,

because everyone loves to say that.

Let's have a look.

252 people thought spider.

You know me well.

Good one.

Heights, 103 people thought heights.

I'm not afraid of heights at all.

Called it, again.

[Interviewer laughs]

Going bald, 72 people.

That is a legitimate concern of mine, too.

I get it dyed every two weeks, so,

we'll see in a couple years.

Really, that's a legitimate concern of mine.

Entering an alternate universe,

where you have an infinite number of lives.

In each life, you're faced with your biggest fears,

and if you don't face them or get over them,

you carry them on to your next life.

It never ends.

Each day is a war.

I think whoever wrote this needs some help.

One person wrote that.

Hey man, whatever you're going through,

I'm here for you, and I love you, okay?

No, I'm not scared of that.

[Interviewer] What do your fans mean to you?

I mean, without fans,

Riverdale fans,

fans of projects that I've done,

we can't do the awesome things that we get to do,

and make the cool stuff that we are making for them.

Fans are super important to me.

As a New Zealander, it's been so inspiring

to see KJ make it as an actor, as it's so easy

to watch acts from New Zealand get close,

but not quite make it in Hollywood.

Watching KJ has helped me realize that,

as a New Zealander, it's still possible

to follow my dreams, even though I wasn't born in the USA.

That's true, you can do anything.

You don't have to be born in the USA to do anything.

Congratulations on all your success, KJ.

We're all rooting for you.

Thank you so much, that's really nice.

For me, KJ is a model in what following your dreams means.

I admire what he was able to do,

from getting casted in Riverdale

and other amazing movies, to getting in a band

with his friends that share the same passion.

Seeing how much he achieved made me think

what big things I could do.

Thank you for showing me that.

That's really nice.

This is really nice, to read all this stuff.

Keneti James Fitzgerald Apa is a lovely

sprinkle of happiness and positivity

in my mostly uneventful life,

so we stan.

[Laughs lightly]

I'm glad I can be some kind of excitement in your life,

that's awesome.

It's cool to read it, you know,

it's cool that people are enjoying

the stuff that we're doing.

I'm gonna be gentle with this one, I think.

We're gonna keep this one on the table.

Seems that people know me pretty well,

which is kinda scary, 'cause I don't know them.

Thank you so much for having me, Teen Vogue.

Very surprising, you guys know me, you guys know me.
