It is the best thing, it is,

as Jason said, it's free dinner,

and you get to watch it in a group of people

that mostly know people that are on the screen.

So there's a lot of really mean gossip that happens.

what was the stand out moment of tonight's awards show?

Well, I mean-- And what did you think?

Well, I mean me and my friend were debating

if that was real or staged,

we're talking about the Will Smith moment.

I think it was real.

So I'm still kind of in shock about the whole thing.

And then his speech afterwards was sort

of a beautiful moment where, you know, he apologized,

but he didn't apologize to Chris Rock.

So I'm curious if they're gonna come to fisticuffs tonight

'cause I'll break it up.

Don't get in the middle!

I mean, it's crazy.

Don't don't get your face hit, please.

I know, right?

It's the money maker.

And of course I was very happy that Troy won for CODA

and CODA was sort of the sleeper of the night.

I've made friends with him doing the festival circuit.

I'm just so proud of him. That was beautiful.

This, I feel like the Oscars are back tonight.

It felt magic again, you know?

I don't know for me as a--

No, no, I think you're right.

And I think that's been the consensus,

everybody that's come by.

It's like, it feels a little awkward to be dressed up again,

but it feels it's a nice, welcome warm energy.

And so I think we saw two artists in a, in, you know,

Sometimes it's messy. It's but it's,

it's always beautiful when it's the truth.

I mean, you, you know, you sing

you act your dance perform live and now we're back in this

space and everything is live.

What is it like,

like to have that sort of like electricity and B feeling

that energy again? Oh, what a gift man.

We really made it. We made it through something.

You know, I know there's a chance we might have to go back,

you know, into our houses once again.

But for this moment it feels really good to be looking

people in the face once again

and standing kind of close to each other and it feels great.

the highlight for you?

Oh my gosh. I mean, I didn't get to hear all the speeches,

unfortunately, the blow dryer was, was really loud,

um but I'm so happy to see Jessica Chastain win,

she was my poll pick, it was really fun,

like doing a poll.

I don't normally do that,

but I was kind of obligated to, so-

[Catt] You had a full day outfit changes,

hosted a TV show, did a, a Oscar poll

and now she's here at the party.

I know we're ready for round two.

[Catt] So, do you have date, or you going in solo?

best supporting actress, but that speech in and of itself,

I mean that speech should win an award in my opinion.

I mean should just brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

Some of my favorites were so not my favorites and I'm not

so I won't name them or the designer, but the guys like,

Also they were taking risks,

which I think is really exciting,

cause I think sometimes the guys get a little nervous,

to like take a fashion choice.

And they did it this year and I think it really worked out

for them.

We were talking about handsome men who dressed well.

however, you've been to this party a thousand times,

you know, this party inside and out,

what is tonight going to be like as compared two years past?

What do you, what's the vibe you're feeling so far?

You know,

it's really interesting because I was in the dinner,

where a lot of the folks that you've been, you know,

that you were talking to earlier that you've been showing on

the live stream so far,

were, and you know, for most of it,

it was like, everybody's talking, okay,

what's my favorite movie.

I like Power of the Dog. I like CODA. I like Belfast.

Or maybe I didn't like this one or that one.

And then, and then the Will Smith moment happened.

And that definitely got everybody very focused.

I think there was a long period of time where people didn't

know what the heck had just happened.

Like the audio cut out.

People were like, wait, what's that up?

And it's, you know, conversations are stopping.

And it was a really interesting room with a lot of

different, you know, opinions about what that was.

Some people kind of saying,

maybe this is good for Will Smith.

Other people saying he really needs to apologize.

Some people, you know, and so it, the,

the conversation was definitely intense, you know, but it,

but hey look, I mean,

they wanted to have an entertaining Oscars.

They have succeeded in that, I guess at a,

at a certain level.

And I thought Will Smith's speech was certainly,

you couldn't take your eyes off at the, you know,

in the room,

everybody was totally quiet for the whole time.

So I think it's gonna be really interesting to see.

I certainly, I think there's a jolt of adrenaline, that,

hopefully people will feel, I think in general,

we just hope that people are gonna come and have a really

good time.

It's exciting that we can come out and have a good time,

again, in spite of all the many problems in the world,

like Hollywood is here to entertain the world.

And I think people are ready to get back to business.

So we're excited to welcome people,

have them have a good time and,

and there were some really great wins.

It was incredibly moving to see the wins for CODA.

I think, you know, there, there were a lot of people.

I mean,

I was like tearing up during a couple of those speeches and

there were a lot of really interesting moments in the show.

So hopefully people are ready to just come and celebrate.

And I think for all the people who've been on the awards

trail for a time,

we hope they can like let their hair down and have an In and

Out burger,

eat something maybe for the first time in a while.

So that's, that's the thought.

and I just feel great to be out celebrating all of the

talent in Hollywood and all of the great movies this season.

And we are so happy to be back with our party this year.

What does it mean to be back? Because as we all well know,

this is thee party of the season.

Everything culminates to this big night and this party

precisely the one.

So how's it feel?

And, and what went into like leading up to this moment in,

in times that are honestly different.

You know we wanted everyone who comes to the party to feel

safe and protected as much as possible.

And obviously we've all been through this incredibly

challenging time with the pandemic, so we ramped up

our testing and you know,

we've done everything that we can we've made some cha-

changes to this space to make it more focused on the

outdoors.

So we're hoping that people will feel easy and,

and relaxed and just have a great fun night.

[Phoebe] Awesome.

I mean, you've done a bunch of these,

like what are you most looking forward to?

Are you gonna like cut a rug?

Are you gonna like get a burger?

Like what are you what's gonna be the highlight for you

tonight?

Anything can happen over the course of the evening.

I hope I will cut a rug.

I mostly, I'm just looking forward to seeing people

in person after all of this time,

it's gonna be great to reconnect.

A lot of people don't realize is that, you know,

at Vanity Fair, we do start early, you know,

it's not just the party after the show,

but the fact there is a dinner going on inside.

Can you tell us a little bit for the people at home what's

going on during the Oscars?

I host a, a viewing dinner.

So everybody who wants to come a little early can sit down

and watch the Oscars and enjoy the show with a bunch of fun

people and you know, it's great,

it's always great to watch the Oscars with a crowd,

so it's our own little small Oscar viewing dinner.

And then as soon as the ceremonies over more

and more people come in.

And so it's really fun to see how the night changes over the

course of the evening as the, as,

as actors come in with their Oscars and you know, it's,

it's just a wonderful progression through the night.

That's the polite way of saying it,

cause really it just gets more wild and fun right?

As the time goes on.

As it should as it should. Right.

We missed some of the speeches.

I didn't hear the, any orchestra coming up saying,

you know, playing, so get off stage.

having interviewed a lot of these people over the years,

I don't really ever get starstruck,

And so when you get in that party and you see these artists

that you respect so much, I love so much, like I embarrass,

but I definitely was like, Adam Driver, I love your work,

you're such, you know, I did.

I've done that a couple times and people are so gracious.

I think I did that to Natalie Portman also,

so it's just wild to see people inside,

like you're getting a drink next to Lady Gaga.

And then you're over here, like, oh, Scarlet, Johansson,

past the prize.

It's like, it's kind of wild.

Its kind of wild.

It's the coolest high school party ever, right.

It's hard to describe it. Yes, exactly, exactly, right.

And one woman who I'm sure has been here before and we might

even see tonight as Billy Eilish, who won her first Oscar

tonight for best original song for No Time to Die.

But I did like tonight show overall because it was such a

good mix of kind of the old and new.

I had just like really gotten into TikTok.

And so I made, I didn't make,

I ask kindly for Judd Apatow and Mayor Garcetti

to hold my phone while I did TikToks with Sofía Vergara.

[Phoebe] I mean, that's a good director,

to get for your TikToks.

It wasn't, basically anybody, and then the bartenders,

I was asking them to hold.

So you just totally.

It's just like a good time. I dunno.

There's TikToks. There's you know, great drinks.

It's fun. It's fun to catch up.

Cause like I've, we've been in Cash grew us here.

A bunch of people that we haven't seen in a couple years.

We like grew up in this business and so we know a lot of

people, so it's nice to catch up.

I mean tonight has just been so fun.

Jessica looked beautiful.

I think she's for me, one of the most reliable stars.

Yeah.

Like she always just knows how to turn a look.

Gives us quality fashion. What do you think?

Well, we were talking a little bit about this earlier.

She just kind of always gets it right.

Yeah.

She always knows the right event, the right thing to wear.

And she does always come across so effortless.

She has like very little makeup and just still looks so,

What's your favorite thing about this setting?

And then you get to eat an In and Out burger at the end,

of the night. So yeah, it's a good time.

[Phoebe] How does it feel to be back out?

You know,

we've all been kind of cooped up for the past two years.

A little hesitant to like be around with the people or have

fun and now we're here doing it big tonight.

Yeah it feels really good. I enjoyed watching the Oscars.

I enjoyed getting ready. I gonna enjoy my champagne inside.

I think, you know, it's been a long two years.

Yeah. Yeah.

I know we're having fun tonight, but you,

you have just over the years, like from model to author,

to actress, you are many hyphenates now,

like what is the most exciting thing you were working on now

that you were proud of or that you've put into the world

recently?

Definitely my book in the past year,

was I released a book of essays

last year that, you know,

it was probably the most amazing creative outlet for me.

And then also, yeah.

I don't know that. That definitely.

[Catt] Yes. Yes. Well, you keep doing you girl.

You're all the things,

the brains and the beauty we love watching.

What was the highlight of the night for you?

Cause you were there,

you saw a lot go down because you were earlier in the

evening.

Rosie give us the tea.

You were providing the laughs.

True tea queen.

Things, took a turn.

So do tell.

Well we were just exiting at that moment because I had a

headache to be to and I was going, what is going on?

And then we saw, and I was like, oh my gosh.

You know, it was just an interesting incident.

[Catt] Yep.

To say the least.

So was there, consensus in the room?

Like, you know, did it bring it down at all?

That was it like a bummer or when he won,

when Will Smith won for best actor,

did it kind of like bounce back in a way.

By that time we were, we weren't there, so yeah.

But initially it was just awkward.

[Catt] Yeah.

I think that a lot of people just didn't understand

what was happening, you know.

And was it a skit, you know, was it real,

you know, but that said it was still a wonderful night,

you know, it was a great show.

People were having fun.

I thought the ladies did a great job.

The, we,

there was a lot of people laughing and stuff and just being

Woody and Wesley, we just had a blast, so it's all good.

[Phoebe] That's good.

Lots to celebrate.

You could go in there and have some fun tonight as well.

It's really exciting to see everyone get dressed up again

and makes you go like, cause I don't know about you,

but I was straight like sweatpants life, flip flops,

no makeup.

And so now it's like, we gotta put those heels back on

and start serving looks again.

but it is pretty wild to go in there and experience the way

beautiful to, to watch that.

I could that I could go get up and go see friends,

you know, that I've had experience with.

But that was a by-product of something that was,

I think good for us as a community.

and four hearts break and one feels really good and,
