We Got Glam with ‘Descendants’ Star Dove Cameron For the Teen Choice Awards!

Claudia Sulewski and I'm here at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards

and I had an awesome afternoon with Dove Cameron

as she got ready for the red carpet.

Let's backtrack about four hours ago

and see what our day was like.

(upbeat pop music)

Hey guys, so, I'm here with Dove Cameron.

♫ Yay (Claudia laughing)

So, we are getting ready for the Teen Choice Awards.

How excited are you today?

I'm so excited.

This is actually my first time going to the TCAs.

Well, I want to hear what your plans are for today's look.

I'm going with blue, which is one of my favorite colors

to wear 'cause it's one of the only colors

that doesn't make me look just as pale as I actually am.

I'm really excited about it.

It's one of my favorite dresses I've ever worn.

It's very cute, so let's jump into this.

(energetic rock guitar music)

Do you have any traditions, when it comes to planning

and prepping for red carpet events?

Yeah, I blast music, lots of coffee,

although, that's sort of like an everyday ritual for me.

(Claudia laughing)

Get out of bed, I need like eight cups of coffee.

But, yeah, I listen to a lot of really,

like, hardcore music.

(electronic dance music)

Congratulations on all of your success with Descendants,

so, with that going on and award shows, things are

kind of crazy right now, but it's exciting, right?

It's really fun, but it's not like a frantic kind of fun,

like a lot of Hollywood is.

It's like a, I feel like I've grown into myself, very well.

I also really like being busy.

[Claudia] I feel you.

What is kind of the whole idea with the makeup?

Are you going neutral, a little darker?

I've always sort of done the exact same makeup look

for red carpets, just sort of like a neutral, natural,

very light, well, I usually focus on the eyelashes.

I'm not gonna lie, I love eyelashes.

I want my eyelashes to be so thick,

I could fly away with them.

Fly away, fly away!

But, lately, I've been really obsessed with, like,

sort of like a natural brown eyeshadow,

like cat eyeliner, like,

just like a little flick, Yeah.

'cause it really, I have super far-apart eyes

and a lot of people think they're weird, but I like them.

(upbeat guitar music)

Oh my gosh, you look so good!

We kind of match a little bit.

It worked out great.

Where is this gorgeous dress from?

Ah, this is a Naeem Khan dress.

Very cute. I love the designer.

And then, what about the necklace?

This necklace, I get a new one of these every year.

This is something that my Dad used to give to me growing up

and so, I pretty much never take it off.

Should we, take some selfies before we head out?

I mean, what else would we do?

Obviously.

(electronic dance music)

We are officially on our way to the Teen Choice Awards.

We're ready.

So, before we get there, though,

I wanted to ask you a few questions.

Who are you obsessed with on Instagram, right now?

There's this girl, Essena O'Neill.

Oh my Gosh!

I love her! I love her.

She's just sends such a positive message, like--

And, she's so happy, too. Mm-hmm.

Like, she's beautiful because she takes

good care of herself Yep.

and because she's living a good life for her

and I, like, believe in that.

How did it feel when you first found out

that you'd be working with Kristin Chenoweth,

because she's one of your biggest role models, right?

Right, yeah, biggest idols, for sure.

She's one of the most amazing people.

She talked to me, at one point,

when I was like really, really, you know, missing home,

missing my boyfriend, missing my family.

She was like, You know, friends, family, always important,

Yeah. but everything else,

you know, like this has to be your true love.

Yeah, I feel like when you're passionate in what you do

and whatever your job is,

it kind of-- You become the person

you're meant to be.

Exactly, and it just kind of Yeah.

comes off so genuine and natural and people can see that,

that you're really enjoying what you're doing.

Yeah, I completely agree.

You also have a band with your boyfriend,

you guys are starting, right, can you tell us about that?

I have a band with my onscreen/offscreen boyfriend,

Ryan McCartan, and it's called The Girl and the Dreamcatcher

and we have some music that's going to be coming out soon.

We've also been kind of going all over the US,

performing a little bit,

and we hope we're gonna be doing more of that soon.

I'm not kidding, I stalked you on YouTube the other day

and I was watching some of your guys', like, duets.

You guys sound so good together.

Do you have, like, a favorite vocal warmup that you do?

Oh, gosh.

Something that actually really gets you in touch

with your core is, you do this, like, hee, hee, hee.

Like, you're like- Hee, wait.

[Both] Hee, hee, hee.

Like, if you feel like stomach muscles constricting.

Oh, I see, hee, hee. Hee, hee, hee.

And then, you go,

So, it's like really high and it's all,

like, right here. Oh my gosh.

It's not cute, all right?

But, it works.

It does the job. It works.

I'm gonna need to know this, for my shower concerts.

Oh, yeah.

Every night, around, you know, 8:00 p.m.,

I've heard those are incredible.

Oh yeah, they're really good.
