The Percy Jackson series is soon on its way and fans of the YA series can delight in the beloved book series getting another screen adaptation.
Actors from the forthcoming Disney+ series walked the red (or blue) carpets this week to celebrate the premiere of Percy Jackson and the Olympians — set to debut on Wednesday, December 20 on Disney+. The first episode will also drop on Hulu, as part of the two streaming services merging under one parent company, while the rest of the season will air each week on Disney+. The series author Rick Riordan announced the streaming plans during the U.S. premiere on Wednesday night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
This new generation of Percy Jackson characters introduces actor Walker Scobell, an already successful young actor in his own right, who plays the titular role of Percy. Scobell has previously worked on Netflix's The Adam Project, starring alongside Ryan Reynolds. Scobell acts alongside Leah Sava Jeffries, who plays Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri, who plays Grover Underwood.
In the teaser trailers released by Disney, we see Percy Jackson grappling with newfound powers that he wasn't sure he had. Percy is then shown training to hone his abilities as he prepares to go on a mission with his two friends to retrieve Zeus' stolen thunderbolt.
The new-aged Greek mythology series was introduced in 2005 when the first book was published. Two movies came out of the series in 2010 and 2013, starring Logan Lerman. However, author Rick Riordan apparently wasn't a fan of those adaptations. Is this TV series part of the story's redemption?
The actors gathered in both New York City and London for the premieres. See all the photos below:
