My first kiss was too grown.

Girls sit your [indistinct] down.

Mama and daddy don't even know this, I'm sorry.

My first kiss was in fifth grade

and it was a tongue kiss, girl.

What's up Teen Vogue it's Big Latto.

And today I'm sharing some of my firsts with you.

[upbeat music]

The first app I check in the morning

is my messages for sure.

You know what, ironically, March 7th

I had screenshotted 777 unread messages

and sent it to my ANRs 'cause like 777, three, seven.

So probably now it's probably like 800 something

unread messages now.

I'm not a texter backer yeah.

Even my mama be calling me like, Girl, text me back.

I was like, I wanna say like eightish

when I wrote my first rap.

I actually know my first rap

but I don't know word for word,

but I know some of the stuff I was talking about

and I was just talking about like

girls hating on me in school and stuff.

I just thought it was like the end of the world,

my little whatever grade elementary school issues.

But I was dissing 'em

like Yeah I got haters and miss whoever class.

I was talking about I was like,

Yeah, my daddy got them big rims.

My daddy got them candy paint cars.

I was talking about everything.

My great grandma had passed.

I was like Rest in peace to my grandma.

I was just going girl, just little mini autobiography.

The first people who believed in my career

as a rapper was my mama and my daddy period.

I don't know how 'cause I was trash, trash, garbage

but they'd seen the light at the end of the tunnel somehow.

I don't know.

I think my first big purchase was

I got this Big Latto pendant chain

and AP and it got like custom pink.

Y'all be seeing on my Instagram and my pictures.

Y'all know what I'm talking about.

Don't do that when y'all sign, don't do that.

Not even a four years later,

you not even gonna be into that no more.

You gonna want a whole different piece,

but you know we rappers and we just we do.

[laughs]

The first time I recognized Big Energy

was probably the first time I looked in the mirror, I guess.

I love to see it, baby.

It was really just me like being experimental

with my sound and just challenging myself

and wanting to be just the best me

the best artist I can be and showcasing versatility.

So it really started off as like a homework assignment

in a way to just test myself if I could even do that

and to see the reaction is like, okay,

we need to get more experimental

'cause the bag is getting bigger.

My first time being starstruck, Rihanna was on live

listening to my song Bitch on the Souf.

Girl, you talking about Riri, the baddest.

I said, oh, [indistinct] price went up.

The first thing that come to mind

when I hear the word toxic, social media.

Social media is just full of like fake pages.

People that don't have the balls to say what they wanna say

from their real page,

trolls and blogs that just push negative images of people.

People who just don't wanna see you win.

They just praying on your downfall

and they just like projecting their insecurities on you

through an app.

The first person to reach out to me

after the Sorry Not Sorry remix came out

was probably Ciara or Monica.

It was somebody like that.

And baby, they all GOATS.

Atlanta birthed nothing but legends baby

or raise nothing but legends, you know what I'm saying?

I was surprised by the reaction to that verse actually

because I was like,

when I was playing it for my friends and stuff

before I dropped, I'm like yoo

are they gonna understand it?

Like maybe it's something that only if you from

not even Atlanta, only Clayton County can understand

but maybe it's just like the way I delivered it or something

because people that don't have a clue

about what I'm talking about, be rapping it.

Like they know what I'm talking about.

So I don't know.

I don't know.

I was shocked.

[laughs]

The first New York slang word

that made it into my vocabulary

was probably is two words or whateva.

Like I always like to throw in like or whateva.

Like I like that or whateva see.

[laughs]

My first hair color that I fell in love with

that I did not think would work off the bat is black.

I always said like I'm too pale for black

'cause baby in the winter,

I'm still holding on to my color a little bit right now.

But baby, in the winter I get ghostly white.

So I was like,

wow this black is like doing something for me.

It's giving what it's supposed to give.

A color that I thought would work but didn't.

My hairstylist is sitting right here.

He probably gonna kill me.

I did this video and it's some purple hair.

And I was like, oh purple.

Like that's one of my favorite colors.

Like why wouldn't purple work?

And I just, I look back at that video

and I just cringe, I just do not like it.

I don't like purple on me.

I don't know what it is,

but is just not complimenting to me.

The first thing I do when I get off stage

is hold a fan to my face and a towel to my neck

'cause I be sweaty.

Wig be sliding back, child a mess.

I immediately have to take that makeup off

or I will start breaking out like I'm doing right now.

It could be a bumpy red, pussy, disaster later

if you don't wipe it off.

When I hear Queen Of Da Souf,

I think of all queens of the south.

I think of Trina.

I think of Meghan The Stallion,

I think of Gangsta Boo.

I think of City Girls.

I think of Flo Milli and the list goes on baby

'cause we some queens to the south.

My first kiss was too grown.

Girls sit your [indistinct] down.

Mama and daddy don't even know this, I'm sorry.

My first kiss was in fifth grade

and it was a tongue kiss, girl.

[laughs]

I'm embarrassed.

The first person I called when I had a bad day

is my little sister, Brooklyn for sure.

She my peace of mind.

My little sister is just like, she gives the best advice.

Her opinion is always unbiased.

She gon tell me the truth

whether or not I wanna hear it.

She gon tell me when I'm in the wrong.

She gon tell me when I'm in the right,

she gon pull up with me and we gonna beat someone up,

whatever she down.

The first dating rumor I was attached to, you know what

this boy in high school, and I was on in like 10th grade,

he told everybody that he took my virginity

and I was a Virgin.

And I was like, Oh my God, like, no, no, no, no.

That really like crushed my spirit.

So if you watching this.

I like fought for like ever, it felt like at least

to prove to people like he did not.

And even if he did like so what, like mind your business,

but I eventually got over it

and I had eventually got a text message from him,

like apologizing for it, screenshotted it

and yeah, your whole plan backfired.

But yeah, I would drop a name

but I ain't even gonna do you like that.

If you're from ClayCo, you know.

My first time head lining my own tour

was technically The Big Latto Tour.

I did that like very small venues

100, 200 people, venues,

very small list of cities, maybe like six cities.

And I was independent.

We was just hitting the road in a SUV, just grinding.

But then I did like my first real headline tour

the 777 Tour.

And those was like 1000 to 2,500 capacity rooms.

And I was touring off my album 777

and went from zero to a hundred real quick.

The first piece of advice I would give

to young female rappers trying to break into this industry

is just stay focused.

Like we in a generation of so many distractions

you got DMs and these boys that you think is famous

and they really want you for you, flooding your DMs

but really you just popping and you got something going on

and they see your potential and they just wanna ride away.

The first word that comes to mind

when I think of the rest of my career

for 2022 is, fruitful.

I think I have a lot of blessings coming my way

and I'm just manifesting this positive energy

and a lot of money on my too.

Thank you Teen Vogue for having me, your girl,

the biggest, Big Latto.

And Imma see y'all next time.
