Grounded, like, by my parents?

[Producer] Yeah.

Oh, that never happened. I was a good kid.

I was a good kid. I was never grounded.

Hey Teen Vogue, it's Madison Beer.

And these are some of my firsts.

[bright music]

Usually the first thing I do in the morning,

I've been trying to break this habit,

but it is admittedly, checking my phone.

I'm trying to get outta that

'cause I think it's not so good for you.

But I'm gonna say I drink a glass of water.

Oh my goodness.

The first thing I did after I released my first single,

I went to dinner with every single person

that was on my team when I was 13 and I was freaking out.

I remember taking, like, Vines of them, I don't know.

Different time.

Trend online, I'm not sure.

But like, the night that Justin Bieber tweeted about me,

I was already just being flooded

with like, hate messages and stuff.

So I was like, is this what this is like?

But I guess the first time I saw myself,

like trending in a positive way was...

I'm like, I don't know.

Can I curse?

I think it's...

Deadass is a New York thing, isn't it?

I feel like it's a New York thing.

I feel like a lot of people in New York say deadass,

and I now say that a lot.

I don't know if that's the first thing I picked up,

but I say that a lot.

My mom had this Pomeranian that she got

when she was in her like early twenties and he hated me,

because when I was a toddler, I didn't know he was a dog,

and I would like, pull his hair.

I didn't mean to, Dozer. I'm sorry.

Rest his soul. And he hated me so much.

This dog never let me near him ever.

So that was my first pet.

But then I had my own Guinea pigs. I love Guinea pigs.

My dad used to have this kind of like camcorder

and he's been recording me singing

since I was probably three or four years old.

We definitely have videos that date back

to like, yeah, 2003, I would say.

I can't even watch videos from my first YouTube channel.

It's really hard for me to watch those.

And recently, one of them went like around on TikTok.

And I was like, why are we doing this?

Oh my goodness.

Honestly, Super Bass was one of the first songs

I ever performed.

I'm not even kidding.

You could find it somewhere on YouTube. Don't look that up.

But you can if you want.

I got a B with my ex-boyfriend.

Justin Bieber.

Fashion splurge?

Probably my love bracelet that I got for my 13th birthday.

When I was born.

First song on my favorite playlist?

'Can't Get You Outta My Head' by Kylie Minogue.

I'm not a risk taker, let's be honest.

Oh my God.

Probably something like Kids' Choice Awards,

something Nickelodeon.

I probably wore something so embarrassing,

so please don't go looking that up.

But yeah, probably that.

My house.

I was a really--

Not was.

I love Britney Spears.

I think I definitely owned a good amount

of Britney Spears music.

First magazine cover I was ever on was Child Magazine.

I won a contest when I was four. That is true.

Oh my goodness. Like, Flubber.

That's a lie. That probably came out in like 1984.

And I'm like making that up right now. I have no idea.

I got signed at 12, y'all.

I never really had like a real job, embarrassingly.

Dolce Vita in Jericho, Long Island.

My first word was gook and then it turned into book.

So I guess I've been academic since day one.

Just kidding. I'm not academic at all.

I've been going on planes since I was born.

I think that the first place I ever went was probably Miami,

and probably in like, infancy.

I think my first concert was the Cheetah Girls.

Also like, still holds up amazing show.

Oh, I'm not sporty.

I probably went to my first basketball game,

like two years ago.

My first best friend.

My, like, instinct is gonna say,

I'm gonna shout out Aaron and Rachel Avedon.

My favorite people ever.

And they were like my first friends,

and, like, still very dear to me.

First big award show.

I think with my new single,

I feel like the Grammys would be really suiting

and fitting for that and that'd be a dream.

I think the VMAs are also just a really fun award show,

so I would love to do something with them.

Slow down a little bit.

I mean I think I lived like a pretty fast life for a kid.

I was pulled outta school in seventh grade

when I was about 12.

And it just has been pretty fast paced ever since.

And I haven't had a lot of time to take in those years.

Truthfully, I feel like a lot of those years

were sort of taken from me.

I never got to experience, whether it's prom or homecoming,

there was a lot of things that I did miss out on.

There's also been a lot of mourning of those types of things

and I think that if I could just go back,

I'd be like, hey, just, you can stop and look around

and do normal kind of kid things.

I think I wanted to be an adult super young,

so I robbed myself of those years

and I wish I could go back sometimes

and give that to my younger self.

Oh my God.

First and only, I think, runway show I ever walked

was for Dolce and Gabbana.

I was like 16. I was atrocious.

And then I walked again for a charity. And again, atrocious.

So you probably won't catch me on the runway,

like ever again.

Probably not.

I'm the kind of person, if I'm in a bad or sad mood,

I like to like fully lean into it

and like torture myself a bit,

so I play this one playlist that's just really saddening,

and I like to just go there.

There's a song by Mother Mother called Alone and Sublime,

that if I'm feeling really just like miserable,

I love to play that song.

Oh my God.

I mean I was extremely starstruck when I met Justin Bieber.

He was my lock screen and my ring tone, for crying out loud.

So I like died when I met him.

But I've had a ton of instances since then.

I met Kevin Parker

and I was like so weird when I said hi to him,

but I loved meeting him.

And then I met Rihanna recently, which also,

I was super weird but I said hi to her and love her so much.

My screensaver is a photo from Fight Club.

It's been that for like four years.

And I don't know if I would really be starstruck

over Brad Pitt,

but I'd probably be really starstruck over Ed Norton.

Don't know why, what's the psychology there. Not sure, but.

Okay, I'm gonna say Paul McCartney.

Because I saw him live recently,

and it was just so moving and life changing,

and I'm now just like, I need to, even if we don't collab,

I need to just meet him and hug him.

I would prefer The Beatles.

I would prefer all four of them, would be incredible.

But I think Paul right now is like...

It would be incredible to just meet him.

Grounded, like, by my parents?

[Producer] Yeah.

Oh, that never happened. I was a good kid.

I was a good kid. I was never grounded.

I don't think my parents still, like, understand anything,

to be honest.

Sorry, mom and dad.

Like, I will be out with my family.

Let's say I'm having dinner with someone,

if someone comes up to me and asks for a photo,

specifically my dad and my grandmother,

they're like, this girl knows you.

I'm like, yes, guys. She knows me.

Why is this still shocking to you to this day?

But like every single time it happens

around my dad or my grandmother,

like, why does she want a picture with you?

I'm like, I don't know how to explain this

to you guys anymore.

But they just do.

They just do. I don't know.

In a constant state of confusion.

So am I though, so I get it.

Oh my gosh.

I don't know if this was the first place or time,

but I do remember I tweeted out when I was younger,

that I was going to the Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island,

shout out to that place,

and I said I was gonna be at the Pinkberry

and if you wanted to meet me for some reason,

come meet me there.

And I was honestly just so excited to, like, make friends

and meet people.

And I remember walking into the mall

and there was a few people outside of one store,

and I was like, oh hey, there's probably six of them.

And I was like, this is so cool.

I'm so glad you guys came out.

And they were like, oh, we're not the only people here.

Look over there.

And there was so, there was hundreds and hundreds of people.

And I was so confused, because at the time I was like, wait,

I...

What?

How do you all even like know who I am? This makes no sense.

I try to spend a lot of time

like, interacting and talking to them.

I think they've been such a constant in my life

and I'm so close with so many of them.

I've known a lot of these people

since we both were 12, 13 years old.

A lot of us have grown up together.

The reason I love them so much

is 'cause they're so understanding of me,

and they're so patient,

and they don't make me feel pressured.

And if they don't hear from me for a month,

they're not yelling at me or screaming.

They're just like, we understand and we love you,

and we hope you're doing okay.

And I appreciate that more than they know.

I'm a big bather. I love a bath.

I'm like, it's my ritual, it's everything to me.

I'm a Pisces. Maybe that's why.

I don't know if that's like related.

But yeah, it makes me feel really good.

I feel, like, calm. It kind of sets me back to zero.

And yeah, it's like my safe space.

Probably like turquoise eyeshadow.

I definitely rocked that a lot in like sixth, seventh grade.

I was a big blue eyeshadow person and blue mascara person,

for sure.

I think Pisces are very intuitive and emotional,

and I think we're able to like channel our emotions

in an interesting way, for sure.

I'm happy to be a Pisces.

I draw a lot of women.

I like to draw girls a lot, and hair and big eyes.

And I just, yeah, I love to draw, like, sexy girls.

'Cause I think that the female everything is amazing.

First meaningful gift.

Probably my stuffed animals that my aunt gave me.

I'm pretty sure.

I was told this when I was like four,

so forgive me if I'm not retaining

this information correctly,

but I'm pretty sure when I was nearly like born

or maybe right around when I was born,

my aunt gave me these two stuffed animals,

a unicorn and a bunny,

and they are still on my bed to this day,

and they're my prize possession.

I think I had Instagram first.

I think I joined Instagram in like 2011,

which is petrifying.

I did have a flip phone for a second.

But the first phone I really remember having

was a purple Blackberry curve.

I miss blackberries. Can you please bring them back?

I know that I've loved Nikki Tutorials for a long time.

I don't know if she was the first.

But I'm gonna lock in Nikki Tutorials.

All right, Teen Vogue.

Thank you so much for having me,

and I will see you next time.
